Highland Capital Management is a successful alternative investment firm that manages structured investments, hedge funds, as well as distressed investment funds. So far, the company has invested in fixed income accounts, hedging markets focusing on leveraged loans, global public equity, bonds with a high-yield income and structured products.
The firm is based in Dallas, Texas and is founded by James Dondero and Mark Okada in the early 90s. Bush Center Pledge
With the generosity of Highland Capital Management, it gives support to the George W. Bush Presidential Center. Its current support provided $10 million worth of endowment which will help the center support various public programs. In partnership with the center, Highland Capital will have a series of programs called “Engage at the Bush Center”. These include lecture programs from leaders and authors, sponsor news, and discussions throughout the year. One of Highland Capital Management’s goals is to provide a series of events that will bring awareness and progress about national programs in the Center.
Engage Series in Bush Center
The Engage programs held at the Bush Center were attended by notable persons and key speakers since 2015. These programs have brought in people from all walks of life, to let them hear about lectures given by public figures such as Dr. Condoleeza Rice, NSA Director Michael Hayden, Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels and the Bush Children Jenna Bush Hagar and Barbara Bush. Other programs held were the Portraits of Courage, which show paintings of the former President Bush after the 911 attacks along with several Veterans.
Women’s History Month Events
A recently held event in the Bush Center in partnership with Highland Capital Management is the First Ladies: Style of Influence. It features a special exhibit where there were several talks about the leadership roles of the first ladies throughout history. It tackled seminar’s on Edith Wilson as a gatekeeper during President Wilson’s stroke, policy advocate Rosalynn Carter for mental health problems in the US, and also features talks about the wives of powerful men across the history of the United States. This is done in celebration of Women’s History Month and was begin with a panel discussion about the roles of the First Lady and how it has evolved over time. The First Lady Laura Bush introduced the panel of speakers Natalie Gonnella-Platts, Anita McBride, Bill Allman, Lea Berman, and Dr. Katherine Sibley who held several influential positions in their respective occupations.
